Character Name: Ren Amamiya

Age: 17

Canon: Persona 5 Royal

Canon point: Train back home – Third Semester Endgame

History: https://megamitensei.fandom.com/wiki/Protagonist_(Persona_5)

Personality:

Unassuming:

Not a man of many words, Ren has learned how to appear unassuming and non-threatening. Due to his criminal record for assault, he was often the target of rumors and verbal harassment – even from the adults around him. His parents sent him off to Tokyo, his teachers were clearly unhappy about his presence in school and even his new legal guardian perceived him as a problem-kid before warming up to him. His best shot at making it through his probation was to mask himself as an ordinary, well-mannered individual, drawing less attention to himself to a point where even the glasses he wears are simply a tool to soften his features and make him more approachable, given the very intense gaze he has without them.

Justice-seeker:
Hiding just beneath the surface, Ren carries with him a strong rebellion and a yearning for justice. Having the penal system rule him guilty of assault over a lie conducted by a powerful politician, Ren finds peace in the knowledge that he saved the woman such politician was harassing. He does not regret it – this initial taste of injustice only opened his eyes to how unfair the world really is and how powerless people can be. His Persona Awakening can be related to this directly. His newfound friend was in danger and there was nothing he could do as it was, until he received the calling of Arsène who asked him if his decision of stepping up for that woman was a mistake and that his friend would die if he did nothing. He accepted the contract and now, he is no longer powerless and is more than capable of helping and providing others with justice that was denied to him.

Inflexible:
Ren is inflexible in his sense of right and wrong, as well as morality. As his friend says, once he puts his mind into something, he will not take no for an answer. This is a valid comment on Ren’s determination – his inflexibility means he is intensively loyal to his beliefs and to the people around him and that he will stand firm in the face of opposition. On the other hand, it can also make it difficult for him to perceive that maybe, playing God with people’s desires and cognition against their will can be unjust on itself.
Focused on others:
Ren does not talk much about his problems unless prompted, regardless of his support system in his friends. He did not tell Yusuke about his probation and hardships until Ryuji brought them up. Instead, he focuses on his friend’s problems. In a part of the game, he is told that he “must have experienced cruelty and justice in this life” and is offered the opportunity to talk about it. The first possible answer is: “What good would that do?”. To his own hardships, he will avoid talking about them or often will make them a lesser deal than they are. He does not tell the Phantom Thieves that he is turning himself into the police either.
Reckless confidence:
Ren is a noticeably confident individual. Often called reckless or even, a show-off, he portrays himself as sure about what he is doing. Be it throwing himself off a stained-glass window or taking leadership of the Phantom Thieves, Ren will even taunt Shadows or make cheeky remarks such as “see ya” to several armed policemen, or “checkmate” when defeating a powerful enemy. On top of this, Ren seems to only plan about the immediate issues he has to face – when Makoto arrives in the group, she asks about strategy to receive no satisfying response – which can be seen as a sign of overconfidence. A sense that he can just make it as he goes. Even when transformed into a mouse, he can be seen happily hopping in flamboyant flips!

Suitability: Ren would interact with PCs and with ADI out of the pure and simple desire of helping others. He helps literally every person he meets in canon, drawing strength from bonds and friendship, thus he'd try his best to do the same here.

Powers/Abilities:

1. Persona Summoning:

A Persona can be described as a part of someone’s personality or soul – the very piece one uses to hide their true identities. It first manifests as an entity, often archetypal, when the user goes through a strong resolve of rebellion and accepts the contract to bond with this entity, ripping off a mask in an extremely painful process and thus, freeing themselves. They can be used in fights in the Metaverse, but utilizing a Persona takes Spirit Points and Health Points and it appears to be an exhausting exchange.

Ren has been gifted with the Wild Card ability, which means he is able to wield more than one Persona. However, his original one is Arsène Lupin, who turned into Satanael before Ren’s canonpoint. Satanael possesses the following abilities:

Maeigaon, costs 22 SP and inflicts heavy Curse damage to all foes.

Megidolaon costs 38 SP and inflicts severe Almighty damage to all foes.

Survival Trick is an auto skill that allows to survive one insta-death attack with 1 HP remaining.

Riot Gun costs 24% HP and inflicts severe Gun damage to all foes.

Black Viper costs 48 SP and inflicts colossal Almighty damage to 1 foe.

Heat Riser costs 30 SP and buffs attack, defense and agility of 1 ally for 3 turns.

Tyrant's Mind is an auto skill that strengthens all attacks and stacks with passives.

Victory Cry is an auto skill that allows to fully recover HP and SP after victory.

Sinful Shell - A bullet made from the Seven Deadly Sins that can pierce even a god.

Arsène is Ren's original Persona, the one he awakened to first. Here is a list of the skills he brings:

Eigaon - Deals Heavy Curse damage to a single target at the cost of 12 SP.

Brave Blade - Deals Colossal Physical damage to a single target at the cost of 24% of his current HP.

Arsène's element is Curse, and he resists attacks from that same category. He is weak against Ice and Bless.

Raoul is a fusion between Arsène and Satanael and is his third-tier Persona, known as another alias of Arsène Lupin. Both he and Arsène share the Fool Arcana, as it is Joker's own, but unlike Arsène, Raoul inherits Almighty as his element. He can block Curse and is weak against Bless. Here is the list of his skills:

Phantom Show - Phantom Show costs 4 SP and inflicts Sleep to all targets with high odds of landing.

Eigaon - As listed above.

Ali Dance - This skill is passive and allows for half hit rate of all attacks inflicted on Raoul's user.

Maeigaon - Maeigaon costs 22SP and deals Heavy Curse to all foes.

Heat Riser - This skill exists within Satanael as well, increasing Attack/Defense/Agility of a single ally for three turns.

Curse Amp - Curse Amp strengthens Curse attacks by 50% automatically.

Concentrate - Concentrate allows the user's next magical attack damage to increase by x2.5.

Life Aid - Life Aid is a passive skill that automatically heals the user by 8% of their total HP.

2. Combat skills

Through his friendship and gymnastic training with Yoshizawa, Ren has become fit and is more than quick to react to attacks as well as an experienced acrobat. He is also able to wield knives and daggers, likewise he is able to use handguns in the Metaverse, although they do not do damage anywhere else. As the leader of the Phantom Thieves, Ren had to formulate several plans to infiltrate Palaces, solve puzzles and evade issues in the real world, making him an observant tactician, which was also improved with the help of Hifumi in Shogi tactics.

As expected of a thief, he is has remarkable speed and is highly skilled in stealth, easily blending with the environment he is in.

3. Third Eye

A special ability is not limited to the Metaverse, the Third Eye provides Ren with a highlighted sight of hidden objects or information that would be of interest, such treasure, footprints, scents, or strength of an enemy.

4. Metaverse Navigation

Through a very insistent application on his phone, Ren was able to visit the Metaverse. This alternate reality is made of human cognition and their distortions materialized. When provided with a name, location and distortion, the application gives entrance to what can be called "Palaces", specific ideas of the person provided that grow around a central disoriented view of reality.

As an example, the first palace they visit is from an arrogant and abusing P.E. teacher whose Palace takes place in the school as a castle where he is the King. Ren and the other Phantom Thieves are able to change someone's view by stealing a "Treasure", the initial source of their distortions. By doing so, the victim has a clear view and repents from what they've done.

Entity Affinity: Ren's most fitting Entity would be The Eye. Ren waters himself down to be as normal-looking and polite as possible, to hide the intensity of his persona and in order to avoid further judgement regarding his criminal record. Furthermore, he's a vigilante whose identity is literally concealed by a mask, a thief in the dark whose biggest obstacle is to allow others to see him beyond what he's willing and comfortable to show.

On top of that, Ren is constantly eavesdropping and trying to uncover the truth about those whose hearts he's vowed to change, investigating and searching for knowledge to make their actions justifiable and accurate, knowing fully well how dangerous it can be to enter the Metaverse and ful. In post-canon, Persona 5 Strikers as well as in the very end of Persona 5 Royal, we learn that Ren is under constant surveillance from the police as well, being watched at all times against his will.
